Respirator training is required for every worker whose job requires them to wear a respirator. Training must occur before the worker first uses a respirator and must be repeated annually — or sooner if specific retraining triggers occur.

Special Situations That Change Your Written Program Obligations

Three workplace scenarios regularly trip up employers who thought their standard program was enough.

Multi-employer worksites: Each employer is responsible for their own workers' written program and respirator training. A general contractor's program does not cover a subcontractor's crew, even when both crews work at the same site.
